Rays having their way with Yankees

Rays take first two from the Yankees!

The Tampa Bay Rays won their second straight Saturday afternoon in the Bronx beating the Yankees 6-4 after a 13-4 romping Friday night. Andy Pettite looked sub par and while the Rays Jackson didn't look great, he looked good enough for the win. Jonny Gomes was the goat and the hero in this one, jacking a 3 run HR as well as dropping a routine pop fly in right field. In his first at bat he sent a high fly ball to right field, a ball which he thought was out of the park, so he began his HR trot, ignoring his first base coach. The ball bounced off the top of the wall and Bobby Abreu threw it in and Gomes was tagged out rounding first base. The series continues Sunday and Monday.

Here is the daily turn on the Rays-Yankees so far:

6 the good:

  • HR's by Pena, Floyd, Gomes and Abyar fueled the Rays bats.

  • The Yankees bull pen has looked good.

  • The Rays bull pen has looked good.

  • Troy Percival notched his first save since coming back to the majors.

  • No one slide spikes high or was tackled by Gomes.

Gomes.jpg 4 the bad:

  • The Yankee's starting pitching has been weak.

  • The cold Yankees line up cant seem to score runs.

  • navi.jpgRays catcher Navarro sliced his middle and ring fingers in a freak accident in the dugout on Friday night and is now on the DL.

  • Yankees Manager Girardi has been fighting a respiratory infection and has been absent from the dugout.

3 things to look for in the final two games of the series:

  • Shields vs Wang on Sunday should be a great match up. Both are 1-0 with a 2.57 era.

  • Look for the Yankees to take advantage of an unproven Rays pitcher on Monday in Hammels.

  • Rays will try to win one more and take the series.

Quote of the Day:

"He knew he screwed up."

Who cares if Navarro is hurt, I think Riggans(his back up) is better anyways. I bet Riggy will take advantage of his shot!! GO RAYS!!!
