Rings, Shutouts and Bill Buckner open the season at Fenway.
It appears that Bill Buckner has made amens with the Redsox Nation. The long time goat of the Bosox threw out the first pitch Tuesday at Fenway to a standing ovation. It appears that two Wold Series trophies is what it takes to forgive and forget the 1986 may lay which is etched in Redsox history. The Redsox also received their World Series rings, their second in four years, which helped ease the pain of Buckner’s past. The day maintained its squishy feel good air as Dice K pitched well, and combined with the pen threw a 5 hit game shut out against the winless Detroit Tigers. It appears all is once again well in “The Nation.”
Th Daily Turn:
6 What’s with the Orioles?
The O’s won their 6th in a row against Texas in Texas.
Aubry Huff was 4 for 4 with 4 RBI. This

matches their best winning streak of all of 2007, and they look like a real ball club, not a club in the middle of a rebuilding year.
4 Same old Rays?
It would appear so. The Rays had their home opener against the struggling Seattle Mariners, and lost 6-5 dropping their third straight. Rays starter Matt Garza lasted only 2+ innings before signaling to the dugout to be removed. He apparently strained his radial nerve. The Rays bats woke up with HR’s from Pena and Riggians, but for every lead the Rays took, the bullpen promptly gave away. The house was packed and as I sat through the game I couldn’t help feel the good cheer from a ferocious spring start begin to seep away. The same old Rays, the same old bullpen issues. Lets hope not.
3 Yankees, Blue Jays lose.
The Yankees bats went quiet in a 5-2 loss to the Royals and Phil Hughes didn’t last into the 5th inning. It feels a lot like last year’s slow start, and that was what ultimately killed their chances at the AL East title. The Jays meanwhile had a game tying HR by Frank Thomas in the 8th only to lose to the Oakland A’s 9-8. It appears the Orioles will run away with the AL East…(cough cough).
Quote of the Day:
“I really had to forgive, not the fans of Boston, per se, but in my heart, I had to forgive the media for what they put me and my family through.”
-Bill Buckner, on what it took to agree to throw out the first pitch at Fenway today.
